in a Catch-22
Until recently PMU famrs served as viable businesses
throughout the U.S. and Canada. These famrs raise mares as a source of PMU - a specimen used for replacement hormone therapy to alleviate discomforts and complications associated with menopause. However, when research found links between PMU and breast/uterine cancer, much the demand for PMU disappeared, leaving these farms with no source of income. Farmers now face the following dilemma: what to do with the horses?
